kick out of spending time helping BES students

Off and running...
During the month of April, four HMUG volunteers came to Boaz Elementary School to
help students and teachers with the technical aspects of their projects. These very
special people are Lois and Vernon McMillan, Gene Wiggins, and Bill Arnold. Marius
Schamschula, Jean Smith, and I met at during spring break and installed memory to
the older Power Macs.
__ With the help of PTO volunteers and an aid, and the
understanding and support of my own wonderful students, I was able to rearrange my
schedule so that I could have two afternoons each week to check in with the other
teachers. What I saw made this all worthwhile. The teachers and the students were
excited and enthusiastic about what was taking place in their classrooms. |

Everybody was learning and everybody was having fun!
_Phase 1 of the Multimedia Mania Project concluded with
two special presentations of the students’ projects. These projects covered a wide
range of topics from ABCs to Black History to Space. They were shown at Boaz Elementary
School on Tuesday evening, April 9 and at the April 13 meeting of HMUG.
Looking
ahead...
A two-day workshop will be held in August for teachers who plan to participate in
"phase 2" of Multimedia Mania at Boaz Elementary School. Day one will cover
the basics of KidPix Studio Deluxe and creating multimedia projects in the classroom.
Day two will cover topics such as bringing in media from outside sources and creating
digital video. To date, six more teachers have signed up to attend the workshop and
join the Multimedia Mania project this fall. The teachers who participated in "phase
1" will be able to lend a hand to those who are joining this fall. The knowledge
and the fun will continue to spread!
Completed student projects from "phase 2" were presented at BES and HMUG
in early December. We hope to present some of the works here in the Academy web site
for all to enjoy. Stay tuned.
