The User Group Academy's "Technology In Our Schools" Grants
Program partners computer clubs with local public schools to help "Teachers
Teach".
__ The Grant program challenged computer user groups
to submit their best ideas for projects that help their local public school students
and teachers through the use of computer technology.
The following projects were granted financing at an awards ceremony held in San Francisco
on January 5, 2000:
Individualized Education Program Database Project
The MacValley Users Group, under the expert guidance of Daphne Gruberman, will develop
and implement a database to assist teachers with the Individualized Education Program
for Special Education Children in the Los Angeles Unified School District. MacValley
partners will be Robin Jacobs, Resource Specialist, and Marla Mondheim, Principal
of the Erwin Street Elementary School in Van Nuys, CA.
__ The MacValley User Group is one of the leading computer
clubs in the US, based in Sherman Oaks, California. See the FULL

Multimedia Mania: Project-Based Learning
The Huntsville Macintosh Users Group will launch and mentor school-wide technology
learning projects through the use of multimedia for the Marshall County School System.
Spearheading the project is Huntsville UG chair person Janice Wright. Partners include
Marius Schamschula and Pete Belcher, both Huntsville Officers, along with Randall
Morton, Principal of the Boaz Elementary School.
__ The Huntsville Macintosh Users Group is a small but
leading-edge computer club in Huntsville, Alabama.
Enhanced Theme-Based Curriculum Learning Centers
The Worcester Computer Society will expand an existing program for the Worcester
County/North Brookfield School District bringing students new opportunities and challenges
to explore existing curriculum through technology. The project is headed by Craig
Dorschel, Claudette Marshall and Scott Marshall of the Worchester group, partnering
with Gail Lee, Learning Center Specialist and Richard M. Boroweic, Principal of the
North Brookfiled Elementary School.
__ The Worcester Computer Society is the leading technology
organization of Worcester County, Westboro, Massachusetts.
Connecting Teachers: Technology To Go!
The Maryland Apple Corps User Group will partner with the Baltimore County Public
School System making it more convenient and effective for teachers to integrate computer
technology through the use of connected iBook laptop computers. The project will
be managed by Computer Liaison Marie I. Ponzillo and Elizabeth Fanto, both of Maryland
Apple Corp, along with Dulaney High School Principal, Lyle Patzkowsky.
__ The Maryland Apple Corps is an award winning computer
organization covering the greater Baltimore area, and has been long-standing, active
supporter of both the User Group Academy and The User Group Network.

Collage: Literary & Visual Arts Publication
The Shenandoah Macintosh User Group will provide the necessary graphics, design
and desktop publishing expertise to implement the production and printing of a literary
arts publication to showcase talented authors and artists of Fort Defiance High School,
Augusta County Virginia. Partnering with the group will be Sandy Greene, FDHS PTA
Director, Cheryl Richards, AP Art, and Mike Leonard, AP Creative Writing.
The Collage went on to win FIRST PLACE in the Virginia State Education competition
for High School Publications.
__ The Shenandoah Macintosh User Group was one of Virginia's
original Macintosh computer clubs providing services for the entire north-western
region of Virginia since 1984.
